A friend of mine said during a helmet conversation "especially at high speeds, the only difference it makes is between an open or closed coffin at the wake". Crude, but it made me think.
Moto GP riders crash at speeds over 150 mph and get up and walk back to the bike and start riding again.
GNS analyzed data from the federal government's Fatality Analysis Reporting System on thousands of motorcycle deaths between 2002 and 2006. The analysis found that:
About 42 percent of riders killed were not wearing helmets.
If 42% were not wearing helmets I guess 58% were wearing them. Funny how statistics can be twisted.

Thank you for finding this study. I knew it was out there, it is the backbone of how most states have succeeded in repealing helmet laws. Indiana helmet free thanks to ABATE.
"Hogster" was way out of line with his "you clowns" remark ... I totally agree. One of the best ways to have someone "disregard" or render your point "moot" is start off by insulting them.
No need for insults, many things in life are dangerous, just riding are bikes on the road can be a dangerous indever! But so are other things in life, Ive deer hunted most of my life, dont get much more risky than that, walkin around in the woods with a loaded gun or bow, climbin in and outa tree stands 30' in the air in the dark, by yourself. maybe I should wear a helmet doin that, wonder if theres a study on treestand accidents. would It change my mind on tree stands, I understand the risk, and enjoy what I do. Lifes full of things we do that can easily kill or harm us. If everything we did was based on insurance, doctor bills, and cosequences we'd all stay inside! Im not gonna tell people they better wear a safety harness when there in a treestand its up to them to decide whats right for them. Just saying lots of diffrent views on this topic. Hopefully we can all agree on are freedom to do what we think is best for the sport weve choosen, bikes are dangerous! I cant wait to get back on mine! Helmet or no helmet!!
