as long as you clowns are willing to carry adequate hospitalization insurance, i really think you should have the freedom of choice when it comes to wearing a helmet. but, there is no way that my tax dollars should be spent treating your head injuries caused by not wearing a helmet. $100,000 should be the minimum amount required to ride without a helmet. win/win. you get to ride without a helmet and i don't have to pay your doctor bills. that would really be taking responsibility for your actions.
then mother nature could thin the herd without it costing the taxpayers money.
I guess that you were refering to me when you said "you clowns" YOU should chose your words more carefully. YOU don't have to pay my medical bills. I have an OBAMA CARE safe premium "Cadillac ' plan that I am supposed to keep. I make lots of sacrafices to keep this job. SO if my status was to change??? Who is to blame for that?
I shake my head when I read, "I live in a state where I have to wear a helmet, so I don't have a choice." Really? Technically, no one is forcing you to wear a helmet. You are either wearing it because you want to or you are just doing it to avoid paying a fine.
Instead of just grumbling and putting something on your head you don't want, why not work the system? Helmet laws are just another law. Laws get changed and repealed all the time. Write, call, e-mail your elected officials and make a sensible case for the return of your personal freedom to choose. Maybe get involved with your local ABATE group. They are usually fighting against helmet laws.
It probably seems hopeless, but nothing will change if people don't make it change.
IS there anyone who has done a study...In the age of studys...who has seen what was the difference of a motorcycle rider, wearing, NO helmet half helmet' and a full face helmet? AN all conclusive study to prove any and all of the differences?
A friend of mine said during a helmet conversation "especially at high speeds, the only difference it makes is between an open or closed coffin at the wake". Crude, but it made me think.

"Hogster" was way out of line with his "you clowns" remark ... I totally agree. One of the best ways to have someone "disregard" or render your point "moot" is start off by insulting them.

That sounds like something the government would waste it's time on and spend a ton of money doing for little or no practical benefit. There isn't any way to determine what you suggest with any accuracy outside of very general statistics.....otherwise every crash is unique.
The good news is that you don't really need any of that to figure out which is going to protect you more. It IS that simple.

That's the sort of comment that the anti-helmet people spout off to make themselves feel better about their choice and the increased risk that goes along with it. What's "high speed"? I've crashed at around 50mph before....and I'm still here.
Sure you MIGHT die in a 70mph crash and you MIGHT live....do you want a face if you happen to survive? That's a better question.
