to the original OP- I hear ya- loud & clear!
I grew up riding & racing off-road, so having a helmet was the norm. Even later in life riding cafe racers, street bikes & dual sports- riding without a helmet I always felt "nekid".
But after moving here in southern AZ, I have come to enjoy riding w/o a bucket. I like the feeling of being free that it gives me, wind in the face, etc. But mostly- in the summer here, I almost feel like the brains are cooking inside a helmet- just way too friggin hot.
Every once in a while I'll strap on a helmet- when the mood strikes me, I sure have enough of them! But I like that it's "MY" choice to do so when "I" want to- and not because someone else has forced their decision upon me.
We've allowed ourselves to be legislated into slavery practically. Everyday you hear of more nonsense laws- dictating how much you can drink, what you can say, what you can buy, etc, etc.
Enjoy what's left of your freedoms while you still can Brothers!
I have a question for those who know... First let me say, everyone should be able to have the freedom to choose. Now the question, here in North Carolina there is a good chance that we will be able to go back to making our helmet choices. Will motorcycle insurance rates go up if the no-helmet law goes in to effect??????
A politicians sole reason for existence is to steal freedom from citizens. Less freedom for you means more power for them. Every waking moment of their day is spent thinking up ways to make us less free.
We're all adults, so we should be the ones to decide to wear a helmet or not. Thankfully, in Texas we still have that right. But I'm sure there is some ***** in Austin who would like to change that!
...ran across a "YCJCYAQFTJB" in the early 60's !!
You got me, I had to look that one up...

i hope NC gets rid of its helemt law this year!
I do the same thing. I prefer riding without in most circumstances. Is NC really considering dropping the law? That'd be nice. I'll be there for a while this summer, as well as many other places.

Helmets tend to bother my neck as well, less with a windshield that deflects really well but doesn't completely stop it.
I know Ill get flamed, so here it is, Im so sick of none bikers and a few bikers who after my accident are asking me if Im going to start wearing a helmet! Why would I its my choice, isnt that whats its all about! For me its a personal thing I dont wear a helmet because I dont want too! Its my life, my skull, my bike,my freedom, isnt that what were all on are steel horses for! because we want to do what we want! And how we want todo it! We want the wind in are hair, and the bugs in are teeth! I dont tell cagers to wear there seat belts and buy cars that have crash bags. So please like the flag says ''DONT TREAD ON ME'' If Im really stupid respect my right to be! If you wear a full face helmet or a half and you think that after 70-80mph itll save your *** buy all means strap it on! Im all for ''you'' to wear your helmet. In fact do what ever you want as long as its lawful, and here in the Blue Grass it lawful to not were a helmet! SO DILLIGAF thats my little rant, thanks for listenin!
Your life, your head, your choice...or at least it should be.
OTOH, I don't THINK "that after 70-80mph itll save your ***", I KNOW it does...and has. Been riding and racing motorcycles for almost 40 years now and I'd be dead several times over if not for the helmets I wore.
I have no problem with "Let those who ride decide" except when the "anti-helmet" people are pissed that they are legislated to wear one and take it out on those of us that do choose wear them by trying to insinuate that they don't really protect you. Make it about choice, but don't try the argument that you're just as safe without one 'cause it just doesn't help your case.
Amen. I appreciate my right too choose. And I do just that, sometimes I wear it, sometimes I dont.
I get the neck ache on long trips with a helmet too.

I hear you 100% brother and wish these wannabees and the like would just shut the frak up and mine there own business. Here in Maine we have the freedom of choice. Every year some dumbass puts in a helmet bill and thankfully it gets turned down thanks to organizations like United Bikers of Maine. I have wrecked twice both times the cagers fault and one time with a helmet on. I only wear my brain bucket when by law, traveling in another state, and that is it. Actually once I rode about 70 miles thru Vermont with no lid and forgot they had a helmet law. If Maine ver does pass a helmet law I'll move to another state. Take care and I always like to say Ride Safe but Ride like HELL.
I never really noticed how annoying helmet laws were until I rode across the south. Most southern states require helmets. When I finally crossed that Florida line I stopped at the first opportunity and chunked my helmet in the river. It was a good helmet, but felt extra heavy when it was not my choice to put it on.
