I occasionaly treat my bike to a pint of Octane Booster. Most gas staions carry it with their automotive products.

Pinging isthe fuel igniting before the piston reaches the top of the cylnder......So your piston runs into an explosion that it must push to the top of the cylinder to complete it's stroke. the noise is a metallic ping. This is the head vibrating against the cylinder jug. Very hard on a engine. The higher the octane,The less volatile the fuel......So it dosn't ignite to soon

I dunno, I haven't checked out where to get that 100 octane. I always use 91 octane. What is this "pinging?"

Keep in mind that unless you are running high compression or have other issues that are causing pre-detonation you will get better performance from lower octance gasoline. That's right, lower octane, as referenced above is more volatile and provides more horsepower absent pre-detonaiton and lal other things being equal.

This is not to be confused with "bad gas" which is to say fuel that has been contaminated, stale or suffering from other problems not associated with octane.

Unless you are "inging" from running high compression, hot, early ignition or some other reason, lower octane is better. Before someone asks, H-D recommends the octane that they do probably for two reasons; 1) engineered for the compresison and ignition timing and 2) to add a margin of safety and make things a little easier on the engine.

think of octane as more of a "stability" rating. the higher the number the more stabil the fuel is, to truely get the use out of 5 dollar a gallon gas you must tune for it, with higher octane you can run more advance, different fuel mixtures, big compressionand still have no detonation. if your scooter is tuned well then honestly you shouldnt need it, if you bike is running to advanced or a bit lean, you will see some improvment, just because the fuel wont detonate as easily as 91. bottom line its a bit af a waste to run it, unless you tune your bike for it and make the comitment to only run race gas. i run it in my crotch rocket all the time but i dont go far on it so i know i can always get it at the same place. Main benfit for me personally......it smells like candy comin out the exhaust!

for those looking for it, if you dont have a station near by that sells it, and you are anywhere near a racetrack/drag strip, you can usually get fuel there if ya wanna play with your tune a little and get every last bit of timing and fuel that you can out of your bike. i know the track here in vegas has, 100,103,106,110,and 116 last time i asked.

a word of advice also.....check the MFG suggestion always!!! high octane isnt always better as stated above!....i have 2 2005 yamaha waverunners and in bold print in the manual it says REGULAR UNLEADED ONLY! this i asume is due to the factory tune, but its there for a reason so i put in the cheap stuff
