The shop pulled my scissored crank and did the weld, etc, replace. It seemed fine for the first 500 miles but now, after the bike warms up there is a very obvious squeaking noise at idle - can't say for sure where it comes from due to the loud exhaust and old ears. Oddly enough, the squeaking gets a hair louder when I apply the front brake.
Head gasket sounds like that when they go on evo's & twin cams , warm it up a little and at an idle run your hand close to the motor around the headgasket area and see if you can feel it blowing . Can't say what the brake would have to do with anything unless you're rolling .
Thanks guys. Yeah, the bikes at rest - not rolling. I'll check around the heads and see if I can feel anything. I was thinking something wasn't torqued to spec when they put it back together, so the heads may be the culprit.
Another suggestion was that it's simply the rubber muffler mount squeaking. Could be that too. I'll squirt it with silicon to rule that out.
I'd start looking at the exhaust. Clamps, heat shields, supports and brackets. If your bike vibrates at idle, applying the front brake will reduce some of the shaking that is absorbed by the front end and creating more vibrations through the rest of the bike.
Was thinkin motor mount but head gasket sounds plausible too. The multi layer head gaskets are touchy if you get any kind of oil on them durring assy. Hope you get it figured out.
Problem solved. V-Twins and Bowties had it right (in a PM) - that rubber insulator that goes between the muffler and mounting bracket was squeaking like a rat in a cheese factory. I took off the saddlebag and gave the muff a shake. Sure enough, it was making all kinds of noise even though it's on tight. I nailed it with silicon spray and no more squeak. Took it out for a test ride and it stayed quiet.
