I had a similar thing happen on my '06 FLSTCI. Turned out that one of the tabs that holds the plastic housing onto the fuel pressure regulator had snapped off, somehow, leading to very erratic fuel pressure. Tech replaced the cap, all is well.
Thank you all for the replies so far. Again, it's possible it was running out of gas. Both times it conked out or tried to, I was slowing down and/or pitched forward down a hill. If the fuel is supplied from the back of the tank, that might make more sense?
I bought the bike 750 miles ago from our local H-D dealer and it supposedly had a clean bill of health.
Hole in the fuel line inside the tank maybe. Sucks air when gas level too low.
I agree... also, you could have got bad gas (water)... also.. make sure the breather at the upper front of the tank isn't clogged and that the fuel strainer is clean.
Then run some Redline Motorcycle Fuel System Cleaner or Redline SI1 through it (awesome stuff)
If it was a car, I'd say clogged fuel line or a dirty carb. But I'm not a mechanic, which is why I let my dealer do the work. Good Luck with it.
I'll be looking back to see what it was, when you find out.
I had this happen in an old car as well. There was crud in the gas tank. When the gas got to about 1/4 tank, the crud was concentrated enough to cause problems. Fill it up and the crud had more fluid to float about in, so there was not enough crud in one place to cause a problem.
