Anyone ever figure out how to fix the annoyance? I have an 09 XL883L and the lowfuel light comes on after about a gallon-1.3 gallons used. The tank is 3.3 gallons
Yes, mine comes on regularly after 2 gallons consumed. On a side note that some of you may want to take into consideration is that the valve/sensor may be seated a little higher in the tank than where it ought to be. I tried stretching a trip once by going off my odometer and was caught by surprise when my sporty started coughing and sputtering at around 100 miles (mostly city riding). Fortunately I limped it to a gas station. To my surprise it took exactly 2.8 gallons to fill her back up. Kinda sucks knowing you have a 3.3 gallon tank with only 2.8 gallons really useable. Now I know it isn't wise to run your tank dry to the last drop because of all the sediment at the bottom but it can be a real shocker when you think you have some reserve that isn't available to you. Just my experience, hopefully it will help one of you out from getting inconvenienced one day.
On a 3.3 gal tank it should come on w/ .8 gallons left. Mine is 4.5 gallon and it comes on w/ 1 gal left, but flickers on and off depending on riding contitions, speed, hills etc. If it's comming on before .8 gallons left, you might have a defect. Are you fillin it up to the top of the filler(on these new fangled pumps ya gotta pull it out hold back that stupid vapor recovery boot and eyeball it) No dis intended, but if I keep the filler fully in my tank I get only about 2/3 full before the pump shuts off, then I gotta pull out the filler and eyeball it til it's full.
My comes on and then I ride another 20 or so usually around 112-120 and then put in 2.2 gallons. I have a 1200 N 08 so not sure about your 883. I have never had a hicup so I don't know for sure how far i will go, but one of these days I am going to put a canteen on my rack and find out, so I don;t have a walking experince.
I experienced this for the first time today. 3.3 gallons and the light came on with 1.4 gallons left. I was right infront of a station and filled it and she took 1.9 to fill.
