Default Fully built Harley??

Does the Harley motorcycle ship from the factory fully built? Or does the dealer need to assemble it?

My dealer is saying they have a $600 prep/assembly fee?? WTF!?!?

(on top of the destination fee of $390)

Anyone know if this is true?

I believe the bikes arrive in crates and are assembled at the dealership. As far as prep/assembly fees, ask if they can knock that off in the deal. If they won't, call a different dealer and have the same conversation. Get them to compete with each other.

They need the bars, mirrors adjusting, alarm fobs keying, basic safety check over, certainly no major assembly.

$600 seems like a rip off and wtf is a destination fee lol

Over here the PDI and first service are included free but admittedly our prices are a fair bit higher than yours..

It's just a way to get more money out of the customer, all dealerships do it, car, truck, other brands of motorcycles.

Prep, set-up & freight (destination) = "price negotiation fees"

Haggle these charges w/sales, or walk...plenty of bikes available in showroom & auctions sites so no need to stick eggs in one basket.

I just bought a '13 Electra Glide Classic over the winter. I asked the same question.

The bike comes in a crate. The dealer adjusts handlebars, front brake and clutch levers. Installs mirrors and windshield. Checks critical fasteners and adds gas. There is no real assembly required.

Any dealer that charges prep fees is ripping you off. This should be included when you purchase the bike.

My dealer charges no prep fee or doc fee.
They even include the 1k and 5k service with the purchase of every new bike.
And sell new for less than msrp. (American Harley, Leominster, MA)

He is in Hawaii...Probably gonna pay it if he wants it...They have a "blue sky" mark up on a lot of their stuff...WTF does that even mean? On another note, it you really want to be ripped, try buying a Toyota Tacoma on the Big Island. They get 5000 over MSRP and won't negotiate...People just pay it...I waited until I moved back to the mainland...

I was told I'd have to pay a transport fee because they didn't have a denim Blackline at the dealership. Funny thing was, there wasn't any BL there.

You don't even need to know. It's easier just to shop for the total out the door price, you don't need to hear the dealers nonsense.
