95% is solo. The group I use to ride with, we had one guy that if he got on the bike there was a very high probability he would have an accident. Then there was the Ride Captain, we nick named him Full Throttle, the name fit him well. He would start out the ride he did fine, the group could stick together, by the end of the ride he ended up leading himself! We never could get him to slow down, he would start driving the speed limit, and then slowly creep up to 60, 70, 80
I have a motto: On the road to nowhere. I carry a small tent in saddlebag and a sleeping bag to lean back on. When I leave out I might have a destination in mind, but, who knows! I'm a retired teamster so I have nowhere I have to be. Met alot of good folks that way....and a few strange ones!
Not big at all riding with groups and tend to get bored. I ride much more aggressively in the twisties than most anyone else I know so I tend to have more fun by myself. When 2 up is about the only time I am not scraping floorboards.
Just yesterday went with a group on a PGR mission. A bunch of us met at one place and met another guy 20 miles or so further. The guy leading the first leg I wanted to bite his head off for not being able to maintain a reasonably constant speed. The guy we picked up is a good rider and I was sure to fall in behind him as he led the rest of the way.
I have close friends who are excellent riders and we ride on occasion together through the mountains of Colorado, average length of trip is 300 plus miles.
Riding solo has also been a pleasure for me. Don't have to look in mirror to see if riding partners are there. I stop when I want. I ride where I want. Don't have to wonder if they'll make the light.
Riding in a group is not safe to me. See too many when riding in groups running lights to keep up. Seems like they ride too fast and close together. Plus most groups are heading to the bar in a hurry.
Yea, been there done that. Group riding, at least with the people I used to ride with really sucked. One guy would just want to go bar to bar, the other group had to stop every 10 minutes to smoke dope, then do stupid **** and almost kill themselves or someone else.
For me, there was no upside. Just an accident waiting to happen. Once it does I'll post it here and let y'all know the story. I'll hear about it through the grapevine.
Geez stop every 10 min. ?? Lousey Boozs and Dirt Weed.
