Iron where in MD are you... I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who is a sales manager for HD if you're interested
Man I hear ya!! I like almost every model that HD makes...I had a softail custom that I poured my heart and soul in...won some bike shows with it, loved the fact that it was a head turner! But I got so sick of riding 30 miles and having to stop. And hurting by the time I got where I was going . So I traded it on an Electra glide and I LOVE it!! Wish I had bought it to begin with...so if you're gonna be doing some longer rides id go with the street glide! And the possibilities are endless...you can make it as trick and slim as you want, or you can set it up for a trip from coast to coast! Cant do that with a street bob my friend.
I was at the local dealer today getting some parts, spent some time looking around since I hadn't been to a dealer since last year. One of the salesmen came over and I asked him what was their big seller these days. Without hesitating he said "Street Glide".
It sounds like your heart is set on the street glide and I think that it is the best option if you are going to be doing a significant amount of touring especially if you are bringing along a passenger. I am sure you will love whatever Harley you decide to go with.

I think your age would have a lot to do with which bike is right for you. IMO, a guy in his 20s or early 30s would most enjoy a Dyna bike - esp WG or FB. When I was that age I rode 750-class Honda 4-cylinder rockets, and from my experience I believe that if they had been available, those are the bikes that would have made me happy.
But for an older (40-ish?) more settled person who wants to ride long distances, the SG is the better choice. If you want the classic Harley look and are willing to sacrifice a little comfort, go with the Road King. If you just want to be comfortable, steady and warm - go Electra Glide. Have fun!
If there is a next bike (it may have to be a trike for me) it will be a Street Glide. Just don't tell my RK cuz the Pysco B will throw a rod if she finds out.
