Of you are like most people, anything short of a touring bike will just be a step. A step between what you ride now (or previously) and a touring bike. I was a 'cruiser' rider (for lack of a better term) for most of my life, because while I could appreciate the comfort of a big touring bike, in my mind, I wasn't old enough for one. Touring bikes weren't 'cool' enough. And honestly, until the advent of the street glide and cvo touring bikes, they really weren't cool at all. A buddy I ride with had a 2004 cvo eg. It was basically a street glide with a hot motor and some cool paint. I thought 'now I would ride that!' A couple of years later, as funds permitted I bought my cvo ultra. It's 'cool' enough, and now I'm old enough!
Asking which is better is kind of useless. People have their own personal likes, dislikes and opinions. Test ride each one and form your own is the best way.
If my vote matters, I like the SG between the two and only because of the way it looks.
Street Glide. Looks clean, rides good and gives you some bag space when you do have to ride to work on it. Although SGs are hot right now (hard to find a decent priced one since quite a few folks like them), it is still a touring bike that will maintain its form and function for years to come.
