Remaining Miles feature seems to be amiss. When first got the Heritage last Fall after fill up the gauge read 207 "MILES REMAINING" I have noticed the last couple fill ups the miles remaining dropped down to 187. Not really sure how accurate that feature was to begin with? Bike is still under warranty, just not sure if i should worry about it. I could just keep track the miles driven for the tank of gas and go from there. Anybody else in this same situation? Also the remaining miles after fill up can remain stuck for 15 miles or so before it begins to move.
different riding styles, how close to top you fill it each time, different gas formulations, brand of gas, etc. will all affect your mileage. the computer is just making a guess based on averages. you still have a good gallon left when your yellow low light comes on.
You guys must have those new fangled bikes that makes you worry about a fuel gauge.
Me? I just run it until it is gone and reach down and switch to reserve. No need for a gauge.
Try that out West where the next station might be 75+ miles away. I remember my son and I stopping on the side of the road once, tying to decide whether to go on forward or go back for gas. His Sporty didn't have much range, even with the reserve.
gauge measures fuel in tank, not very accurate. MTR is based on consuption values and as you found out, is subject to change based on several factors that affect the
algorithm. Its pretty accurate, once you figure out how to use it and what affects it.

It was said in jest.
Actually on any long run including out west I ride by mileage and fuel range not fuel gauge. My fuel gauge is covered by a tank bag when I am on the highway. I also carry additional gas in 4 MRS cans on the bike.
Mine is usually is a little over 200 after a fill up. But I go until the little gas pump light comes on. Or the next station on the way home...which ever comes first.
