Anyone had a citation for a non dot helmet lately? I received one this morning. Not too concerned about it. I'm probably going to fight it but still interested if anyone knows the fine. Thanks!
Was it CHP ? Because they have issued a policy statement that says unless it is clearly not a motorcycle helmet, ie. football or bicycle the officer shall not issue a citation.
I haven't because mine has a sticker, as long as it stays on. It's slowly pealing off and there's nothing inside saying it's DOT. I guess I need to break out the glue.
Yeah, have been riding with a novelty for over ten years....couple of months ago, got a ticket for non-DOT helmet. $110 fine. Officer was pretty cool though, said if I brought a DOT helmet with proof of purchase, he'd clear it. I bought a Daytona helmet "Worlds Smallest DOT helmet" according to their website. Didn't like the mushroom head look but took it to the officer. He cleared the ticket and then I sent it back to Daytona Co. Bought an AK88 and very pleased with it.
Not sure how you fight a non-DOT ticket if you live in a state that requires a DOT helmet and aren't wearing one while riding and get caught....but I wish you luck.

Isn't the amount of the fine noted on the ticket?
As previously mentioned, if a DOT helmet is required where you got the ticket, and you weren't wearing a DOT helmet, what is your defense going to be in court?
I get around the CCCP of Washington's helmet law by getting a DOT helmet one size smaller and hammering in the foam until I have a custom fit and no mushroom.
The best one is my carbon fiber polo helmet- it's so comfortable and due to it's design, has narrow sides already- fits like my old beanie.

I say fight it. A buddy got a similar ticket in VA and went to court for it. The bike lawyer from Richmond IIRC easily got him and others off. Take a look at what the law says specifically in your state.
