Default Engine Light. Low voltage.

The red battery light came on along with the check engine light. Voltage meter is reading 10V.

This sucks, I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow. Can someone tell me what they'd do to diagnose a problem like this?

With the bike running check the voltage. Looks like you already did if it's at 10V. That usually means you need a new stator.

There is a video on youtube that shows you how to change it yourself if you are mechanically inclined.

No I'm not changing it myself. That's a warranty issue is it not?

Do you think there's a possibility that it could be something simple, fuse, corroded connection somewhere?

I'd check the battery cables first to make sure they're not loose or dirty. How old is your battery?

The battery is original, so 5 yrs. Would the battery just quit one trip? I mean the bike has started perfect, it holds a charge for days.

Have you ever noticed your bike turning over slower than normal? 5 years is pushing it, you're probably due for a battery.

I know it's due for a battery. Ok, lets assume it's the battery, how can I check that for sure?

I think the voltage should still be up to 14 or so when it's running even if the battery were dead. Wouldn't it?

Yes it would since your measuring the output of the stator.

Blown stator is a warranty fix....the battery is not.

If you're checking it at idle your reading may be low. Hold the throttle up a lil and check again.
