You can fold the backrest down to swing your leg over then swing it back up once your on. Although the seats are fairly wide their pretty narrow in the front making it easy to flat foot and keep your body forward until you flip it back up. On my Dyna the backrest folds down lower than the back of the seat

Have you tried standing on the floorboard before you try to get a leg over?

HD just came out with a stand alone backrest and have seriously considered it. I'll wait until my next long trip before I part with the $250 asking price.

Not yet. The backrest won't arrive until today or tomorrow. But I will give that a try and also try mounting from the high side. I appreciate all of the suggestions!

Just don't try standing on the floorboard from the high side. Lmao. But if you do, please have someone take a video so we can all see what happens.

I had a 700 miles ride last weekend on my Heritage. A back rest will be on order.

I suppose that would look a little like that bikini bike wash video going around the last couple of weeks, but not nearly as pretty,

Interesting thread...I ordered an adjustable backrest from ebay, it's been sittin' in my parts room. I'll put it on the bike this week.

I was a bit concerned about gettin' off and on the bike with it installed...I have a 28" inseam.

If it weren't for a Riders Back Rest I would be limited to some very short trips ... I've had serious back problems for years.

What I do and it may help you is reach down and grab my pants cuff on my right side and pull my leg up and over the seat. That helps me a lot when I have my tour bag on back and cant just swing a leg over the top of everything. hth edit: My knees are not so great eiher especially my right one I find after a long day I have to grab my cuff to dismount also fwtw....

I also am a person that would not be w/o my back rest it also gives my wife somewhere to put her hands since I dont have passenger hand holds etc.

My low back is bad and thank God I can ride a motorcycle w/o pain thanks to the back rest. I can ride 5-600 miles a day and my back is the least of my worries.

I bought one that folds down off ebay but I have never used that feature but it is there if the need arises they make rigid ones a little cheaper. I paid about $150 with the studded pad (10 bucks xtra) and freight from cali.
