I do this exact thing when I travel with my tour bag.

I have the HD Air Zeppelin seat pad version to the Airhawk R. Which is 1/2 the price of the Airhawk. It's terrific. It's easy to do 100s of miles at a clip. My legs give out long before my butt does. Plus I can adjust it on the fly.

There was no way I could sling a leg over with all my gear packed. lol

I only remove it when I need to get under the seat for something.
Wasn't crazy about the looks so I got the CVO pad type for SG.
I'll never ride without it. E v e r

A backrest and a windshield enable this old man to ride on.

Just installed one yesterday(after 40k without). So far it's all good...except when the wife is on the bike. She don't like it so I took it off today while she was riding with me. Gonna ride to the beach this coming weekend so I'll be giving it the real test(wifey's driving the car...someone's gotta carry my fishing stuff...). I think it will be a good accessory to have.

YUP - solo works best with a drivers backrest ... (crowds the passenger somewhat) hence the quick release option is very popular !
