Ok just wondering if anyone can shed light on an issue that has been happening in my area, Western PA. For about the last year, myself and others have experienced this many times, when you pass these guys in a diesel pickup truck coming the other way or pulling out in front of you they get on the turbo and make sure you get covered with a nice black cloud of smoke.
Just wondering if there is some "cool" trend of doing this or some weird freakin name they have for it. It is extremely disrespectful, offending and just plain dangerous for someone on a bike , I've already been totally blinded for a second or two, not to mention the choking smell.
Been riding for over 40 years and have never seen or could even think of the things that are happening on the road to hurt other people. Just curious if anyone has had this happen to them in this or other areas.
It's called "rollin' coal". Some trucks have a switch that disable the airflow sensor forcing the engine into a rich condition, some trucks just do it when the are put under load. Unless you did something to **** someone off I would presume the latter. Trucks that have pollution controls won't do it in stock form. Most likely, it's not on purpose and could earn the driver an expensive ticket.
Yes they've been doing it for years up here....kids clearly do it on purpose to amuse themselves. See it all the time, see them looking back and giggling when they do it. Hardly ever see it when the driver is solo..but when he's got a bud or two in his truck...it's prank time at the riders expense. More often when they have those stupid looking 1' wide wood stove pipes coming up out the bed of their truck.

Happens here all the time. A kid up the street has gotten me a couple of times. I followed him home last time and had a little chat with his dad. Explained to him the next guy may not be so nice about it, and this was my last time being nice. No threats but left him wondering about it.
I used to run a 7.3 Power Stroke that could make a pretty good cloud in the performance tune mode but I had too much respect to do that except for rural stretches of interstate for the fun of it.

I see it a lot my self in Carroll County. I never really give it much thought though. Reminds me of an old Nova I had with Jolley carb and manual choke. When someone would ride my *** I would ease out on the choke a bit and richen it up until they backed off.
