Default Dyno Tune question

I have the PV2.

I contacted one of the authorized Dynojet tuning centers listed on their website and was told with the new Dynojet dynamometers they can do a complete tune in just over an hour. Does that sound right? I tried to send an email to Dynojet but their website keeps failing. I'll call them Monday morning but in the mean time any opinions?

Another question: Do I have to have a PV certified tuner do the work? Do they have to use my PV to do the tune or can I take my bike to any good tuner and can they do the tune and save it to my PV?

Thanks

Mine took 4.5 hours, they used my PV2, and put a locked map and an unlocked map on it for me to play with.

I agree with Rooti, one hour is not a dyno tune.

Do a search for dyno tuners in Florida and see what comes up.

You can load a canned map into your bike in the driveway. They can probably do a test run in an hour, but to actually tune your bike, it will take longer. Every run gathers info that the have to analyze , then figure out how they will go about changing it. Maybe some minor tweeks, or even a new map. Also, any other work done to your motor will effect how fast the tune gets done. Not all parts play well together and require some fiddling with to get right. Sometimes you can't get the most due to say, your exhaust is too restrictive, or your cams just can't do it. A completely stock bike will be easier to get the most from. But still will leave you wanting more.,,,

Default Just spoke to DynoJet tech support

This is interesting. I just got off the phone with DynoJet's tech support who told me the same thing the tuning center in question said, that their latest dynomometer software can do a complete tune in just about an hour. He said most of the diagnostics are now computer analized and together with the PV it is a faster process. He said specifically that it was a complete tune and much more than a canned tune and auto tune.

So now the question I have to ask myself is it worth the $300.00 quoted to see what a one hour dyno tune will do?

That is interesting. I've been pretty happy with Dynojet's tech support since buying my PV2 last year. They haven't steered my wrong yet, so I would trust their word on it if it were me.

There's a thread here somewhere that has a list of questions to ask a dyno tuner to find out if you're getting your money's worth. I just tried searching for it, but came up with a crap load of choices and don't have time to sort through them. If you can find it, it may help with your decision.

Default Got a couple more responces from DynoJet

I sent emails to seperate address at DynoJet over the weekend and got these responses this morning.

1- Thank you for the inquiry. Your bike can be dyno tuned using the Power Vision. The length of time can vary, depending on where you are starting from. If you have a good “base” tune that is fairly close to correct, the dyno time is significantly reduced. Maybe an hour. If do not have a good base tune, my tech, starting from scratch would need about 3 hours to tune a bike with the Power Vision.

2- Hello Warren. The local shop you called is probably referencing our Tuning Link software that automatically tunes the Power Commanders on the dyno, similar to the AutoTune feature of the Power Commanders and Power Vision. On the dyno, this process is a bit quicker than on the bike, so I could see it being done in an hour, especially if your map is already pretty close.

With your Power Vision, the shop may have our AutoTune Pro kit for their dyno and plan to use that, which would be similar in time to tune.

If it’s not too late STOP!!!! Step back and re-think / look again.
You have a Stage I build, AC, and Mufflers. the DynoJet that you have has an auto-tune feature. Their are a lot of maps for your build on the net.

So, what type of problems are you having with the bike, backfiring on decell?
Fuel mileage down in the 20 -30's.?
Bike running HOT, plugs looking White?
etc.

Or are you just looking to spend $300+ and have the bragging rites to "I have a Dyno tune that cost me $300+"

The few, 2-4 HP and 2-4lb. TQ that you MIGHT get from a "Tune" in my book sure is not worth that much $$$.
Re-read the manual on the DynoJet and how to use the Auto tune. You'll come out a lot richer in $$ and knowledge.
