I have two Harleys and don't use battery tenders on either one. I just ride them both every week. The longest I've owned a bike was for 5 years and it was still on the original battery.
I'm probably not the best one to answer your question because I do not store them for the winter, I have one tender which is on the one I am riding less, typically the Low Rider but when I do take time away I just switch it every few days.
Well sometimes the weather gets nasty here in Oklahoma and I don't ride for a couple of weeks maybe four weeks at a time. I want to keep my batteries healthy for lack of a better term.
I'd spend the 30-50 bucks and buy another one. I keep 4 on my HD, riding mower, Vette and truck. Batteries will last about twice as long if you have mutitple vehicles and don't run them regularly.
When I was living in NJ I had three bikes and switched once a week between all of them. One was an 1800 Gold Wing that after ten years still had the original battery. Also had a five year old Triumph Bonnie with no problem on the 3 week schedule.
I did try to ride all three whenever there was a break between snow and salt. I think the worst winter I could not ride for a six week stretch.
