Ok, some interesting discussion going on here. How about multiple bikes to a spot?

In a parking lot with a friend on another bike? sure if there isn't a threat of car doors hitting our bikes.. However, what about the city parking spots along the street. I know in California you have to park a 45-90 degree angle to the curb but is it considered illegal or bad form to put 3 bikes in one of those spots? And on that subject, what about the parking meter for one of those spots?

Hey! Maybe if you hang your get back whips on the parking meter, it will scare away the meter maid.....

Here in Germany, it's almost encouraged to park on the sidewalk, especially in front of cafes or gasthaus'.

If you got a Harley you can park where ever you want. If somebody don't like it just shoot 'em. Right?

I'm curious. Where do you leave the placard on the bike .

Maybe it's different in Nova Scotia, but in California we have a plastic tag to hang on the mirror. That's fine in a car. But on the bike it's out there for anyone to take.

I park where ever I want, provided it will not "infringe" too much.
If the biz owner does not like it, it is their option to tell me to move, simple as that, and that's not being a dick.
I like to keep an eye on my ride which is my option.

The only time I park in other than a regular parking space is at work where I park between the stairwells (or under one if it might rain). Got to ride about 50 feet down a walkway to get there but the bike is tucked in where nobody is able to bump it.

Park on a pavement or tuck it anywhere else "out of the way" and you are absolutely GUARANTEED to get a ticket costing you at least Ł50 (that's about $82 for those of you in the colonies). Fines are severe here - I got tagged on CCTV riding about 50ft in a bus lane (I was just sneaking to the front of the queue. Cheeky but not exactly illegal) Bingo! Ł130 ($211). Park in the wrong place in central London and your bike will be spending the next day or two in the care of Westminster council until you pay them a small(ish) fortune to get it back.

On the other hand, we have dedicated motorcycle bays all over the place which are free to park in (assuming you have a solo motorcycle - no Urals). That's except for Westminster who charge you Ł1 to park all day (Ł18 for a month's worth).

In supermarkets, I always use a bay, but put the bike in the middle and towards the mouth of the bay so it can be seen before any cagers start to turn in.

We also have no problem with supermarket trolleys wandering off. People are generally pretty good at putting them in the corral and there's never a shortage of staff collecting them up. At some places you have to deposit a Ł1 coin to release the trolley, you don't get your Ł1 back until the trolley is back where you got it from.
This is the most British post I've read here in a while.

With the wife and I together it's two bikes in a space. Kinda staggered with me hanging by tail out a bit to show 'occupied'

At stores that have a bicycle rack, we park up by that. We'll also park up on the walk next to the scooters when present. No matter what though, never near a door and aways allowing generous walkway.
