I was just wondering if people really do steal helmets? I just bought a new one so it had me thinking. I have a half helmet. Do they steal those too, or just the expensive full face ones? I mean when I go into a store I just hang the helmet over the handlebars. Is someone really gonna steal a used helmet? If they have a motorcycle chances are they already have a helmet. Why steal mine?
I seriously asking a question, not just going on a rant!
It's kids who do this. They have no use for the helmet, it's something that looks shiny or cool that is easily taken.
Why would you look foolish bringing a helmet into a store? People do it all the time.
You have certain people who steal things for the thrill and don't care if they have a use for it or not. I wear a 7 3/4 hat/ helmet or a XXL. I've not run into many people who have the same size but I've had 2 helmets taken, I figured it was kids showing off in front of the others as they could not wear them. My western style palm hats are size 8 1/8 and I had one of those stolen by some *** that most likely wore a size 7.
When I am wearing my $700 Arai helmet it goes with me. Why take the chance. Plus, I can see some prankster taking it just for fun since I live in MA which is probably the most nannified of nanny states in the country!
I have yet to have a helmet stolen, lucky I guess. If I wear a half helmet, it goes in the saddle bag. I usually wear my Bell RS-1 with a UClear Bluetooth on it and I always feel uncomfortable leaving it on the bike. So I found a Packsafe lockable helmet bag. Nice bag, water proof and lockable. I used it the other night when I had to park in back of a local Mexican restaurant, that has been busted for selling stolen merchandise out of the back of the kitchen. Not my choice to eat there ....
