I have a 2010 street Glide and would like a longer handle bar? whats good? how big can I go without new cables? is it a pretty easy process to change them out?

I put 12.5 apes on my Ultra and did replace the cables. I have read 10 inch is no problem with stock cables. I have also read where several people used stock cables with 12.5 inch but it was a stretch.

I just had 10" Mayhem bars installed, that's what fit me best and had to extend clutch cable. Friend of mine had 10" twin peaks and didn't have to replace any cables.

I am still running stock...I have thought about it...many people tell me once you go taller...say 10" you will never go back....I have always felt my arms would go to sleep and get numb if they were that high....LOL...or it would be harder to control the bike

I'd say that you should start at the dealer's "Fit Shop" to get a basic idea of what you want.
You could also go to a local indy shop and ask them or just look at other bikes to see what you like.

Finding the right bars isn't easy and you don't have to go "up", you can just have the bars come "back" to you.

Having bars (and a rider backrest with highway foot pegs) that fit's you can eat up the miles on a trip.

I knew the first time that I sat on my bike ('13 CVO Ultra) at the dealership that the stock bars had to go and the first trip (about 500 miles) I took on it confirmed that I was right!

You might want to check out Heli Bars. They are very popular in this area, especially with the Trike riders, because the factory bars make them reach too far on turns. They can be adjusted high, low, in, or out. I'm not wild about the looks, but a fairing hides a lot of the handlebar anyway. From what I'm told, you won't have to change any cables.

I put 12" Burly bars on my 07 SG. It took about a day to get comfortable with them but now I wouldn't want the stock bars back. The riding position is very comfortable for me but each person is different. The only draw backs I've found is the bars put my hands just above the fairing so wind etc is something to factor in. I wear gloves 100% of the time so it's mainly just rain and cold that can be a problem. The other is the stock mirrors must be relocated or my case removed, I went with PM oval mirrors and mounted them BELOW the bars not above. It gives the bike a cleaner look, keeps the mirrors below the fairing and provides perfect rear view vision.

I went with 14" Wild Ones an my 12 SG. I had to replace the cables but it was a huge improvement over the stock bars. I don't get sore shoulders and back after a day of riding. I also think it is easier to handle the bike now too. If I had known what a difference new bars would make it would have been one of the first mods I would have made.

That's what I had put on my 08 SG last fall and I really like them. Obviously, the cables had to be changed. I can wrench a little, but personally wouldn't attempt to change the bars on an SG.

BTW, I'd definitely "test" some out before you buy. My dealer ordered 3 of them before I found the ones I liked (no extra charge for ordering or sending them back). I originally was looking at 10's, but on the bike, I didn't notice that much difference from stock. 12's were OK, 14's were perfect.

If you go to the Wild One site, they have pics of all the different bars on all the different bikes and they are VERY accurate.

I had the same feeling. Haven't replaced the bar yet but will eventually. Only ride the CVO Ultra on long trips. Usually ride my FatBoy with Street Slammers....what color combination did you get?
