So, a man (me) buys a Electra Glide at the ripe old age of 56, and people make comments about my mid-life crisis constantly! I hear it almost every time I mention that I bought a bike...and I'm not just hearing it from the women, men make the comment too. I politely tell tham that I am now at a place in my life where I can afford to buy the things I have wanted for most of my younger years when I had limited funds and supported a family. Now that I am an empty-nester, I can afford the toys...they say the same thing about my 1974 Corvette.
I really hope it is mid-life...that means I am good until 112.
Any of you other elder statesmen have to listen to the same crap? If so, have you figured out a clever way to respond?
Nope, not me...not to my face anyway. I guess because this one isn't my first bike. Maybe that makes it different in some people's eyes.
But when you're able to afford stuff, get it. Because if you don't, you'll beat yourself up with the "coulda, woulda, shoulda" and that sucks.
Whoever you're hearing that from...a lot of it could be jealously on their part. It's common to run down something, when you really would like to have it yourself.

I know what you're saying. Wife, house, kids, private school, and college tuitions kept me off a bike for 28 years. I didn't care what others thought when I got back on two wheels. Those that make the comments are most likely jealous of our decisions. Ride on.

Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
Being 50, single, no kids and an ex wife from 26 years ago I get that crap all the time. My neighbors are the worst, they see me with a Corvette, new Jeep, bikes, women, parties, retired from the Corps, Daytona trips, Sturgis etc and they scowl with "mid life crisis" etc.
The thing is I've been living this way my whole life and intend on it to continue till I take a dirt bath.
Look at the source of the negative comments and I think you'll find those people miserable with all aspects of there lives. Roll on.
