I belong to 2 chapters and very rarely ride with them, but they are all friendly when I see other members at the dealerships. The extra cost of joining the local chapters at $25 a year gives me 10% discount at one, and 15% discount (once a month) at another. I easily save at least that by being a HOG member.
It is very nice to have if you attend any of the anniversary celebrations in Milwaukee. lynyrd skynyrd was more than worth the fee plus the gift card. Was worth the fee to me.
Bought a new bike today and got a free membership. I remember liking the mags the last time I bought new and received a free membership. Don't really think I'll renew it when it runs out as I didn't the last time.
I have a great supportive dealer and an active local group. So for me yes but only for the fun rides and have met some good folks.
I wouldn't join if I was looking for towing or insurance.
If you want the towing help, join the AMA. I am a HOG member from my bike purchases, I have been to a couple of the meetings and several of the rides. I enjoy the group, and will pay for it when I need to.
Im a member, renew and occasionally attend meeting. We do some fun rides and do a lot of stuff at the dealership events. So I enjoy it.
I posted about this once and got nothing but negative responses. Too many trolls on here, so I dont usually bring it up. To each their own. I'd say check it out, maybe go to a meeting or attend a ride. If its not for you, its all good. But for the $20ish a year for roadside, its not a bad deal.
I'm in as a new owner. The local chapter here is very active and I've quite enjoyed the rides, the shared HD enthusiasm and some of the other activities. Its not an all or nothing deal. Thing is, IMHO, if you join HOG, a Church, the Masons,, whatever with little more than a "I've paid, now what" attitude, the chances you'll like being a member aren't good. Not generally difficult to find some riding buddies who fit your personality within HOG if you want to.
HOG is OK in my books. I'll be sticking with em. I'm sure if I work hard and save I can stay current with the dues .
