I have had my bike for approx 2 weeks. when I bought it it ran fantastic. The last couple days it has been running like crap, backfiring, bogging out at take off, have to rum high rpm to keep it from spitting and sputtering, not happy. Please help, waited my entire life for this ride

Was the bike a garage queen? Have you gone over the bike since getting it (plugs, wires, gas, etc.)? If it sat for long periods drain and fill tank, pull carb and clean, change plugs, change wires if they are questionable. Check battery condition and terminal connections.

Great choice, BTW.

First...welcome. See if you can get your thread moved to the Evo forum. Probably a simple carb problem, start by letting us know if it is stock or not. I had a similar problem that turned out to be a broken wire in the pick-up under the nosecone. Start with the easy stuff....might just be bad gas.

I had an FXLR, the one bike I wished I had back. Most likely a carb problem, fuel line, filter, plugs, wires etc. Doubt it's anything major, I fouled many plugs on mine until I figured out the choke/enrichener ****. Good luck and don't sell it!!

If it's still got the original carb, check the compliance fittings for cracks. They are the rubber fittings that connect the intake to the heads.

Don't let it get you down bud, it's probably something simple. Once fixed you'll have an awesome ride! But do like FlamedFXR suggested and take it to the EVO forum, you'll get plenty of help there: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-classic-models-84/

Try adding some LUCAS Ethanol treatment into your fuel… one oz is good for 5 gal. I will never ride without it again.

Don't get too frustrated. You have a great bike, just needs some TLC.

It's possible that (as Sgt. Fury said) the seal between the carb and intake has sprung a leak or the seal between the intake and head crapped out. Another thing you might look at is if the VOES (should be right behind the carb) is hooked up correctly with the vacuum line not split or the electrical connector has jumped off. If it was sitting for a while before you bought it, more than likely is a fuel problem. Bad gas or funk in the carb. Good luck with your new bike. Personally, I don't think you could have chosen a better first Harley.
