Default Quick fix!

After getting home from camping all weekend, I took off on my 2010 Fatboy. I got about 7mi from home, went to take off from a stop sign........nothing but idle. I broke my throttle cable. So I pushed the bike to the curb, pulled out a pair of needle nose pliers, removed the broken cable, switched over to the throttle off cable, which meant I had to turn the throttle the opposite way to get back home. I had a couple of over revs while shifting, but cruised on back home without a problem. I just got done ordering new cables a few minutes ago from J&P. How many of you have broken a throttle cable while riding, and how did you make it home?

I have done it over 50 miles from home, and pulled the outer off of the cable and used my hand on the bare cable.

Something similar, retaining clip that holds the carb needle valve fell off and fixed it with a piece of wire I found in my tool bag. I was in the middle of nowhere in rural WI and it got me 50 miles to home. Just good to know common sense is still alive. Man this could be a separate thread called The Common Sense thread

I feel very lucky if that's possible when mine broke. I was all ready to go on a ride had done all my checks and after letting bike idol a few I hit gas and snap right in the driveway. I was mad but I guess happy that it was at my home.

I had to use the bare cable trick also so I could get home. Man it's a tricky task but it can be done.
