Is it us or them?

I'd say it's a little of both. Some metric guys are pretentious ******, as are some Harley folks. Just like anything else, I reckon- both good folks & buttholes on both sides.

If you drive a RAM and you pull up to a couple people who own a F150 and say Hi to them and they just stand their with their backs turned, would the thought enter your mind that it's because you drive a RAM? You would think maybe they are talking or didn't hear you. You wouldn't fret about it or go on a RAM forum and talk about being dissed.
For some reason, motorcycles are different. People seem to take everything personal if they even think someone looked at them the wrong way, failed to acknowledge or wave, etc. Why, I don't know.
Almost everyone who rides wants a Harley. They ride others 'cause they can't afford a Davidson. If you look at famous people who ride, they almost exclusively ride Harleys, even though they can afford to ride anything they want. Don't see many multimillionaires riding metric.
Don't hate them. Feel sorry for them, because they know not the pleasures of forking the Big Iron. And, they prolly never will.
Elitist mythical BS. "Famous" people are idiots and elitists and want to convey the biker appearance. For famous people it's ALL about appearances. Many may not even ride a whole lot. if at all. They would not be seen on anything but an American bike....Sonny Barger is riding a Victory and claimed he would have been riding Japanese bikes if Harley was not the mandatory ride.
Anyone who paid over $12K for any new Japanese cruiser could have had a Harley, Anyone who paid $12K or more for a Victory could have purchased a Harley.
The myth Harleys are out of reach financially for the "poor Japanese wannabee" riders "all of whom who wish they could afford a Harley" is hogwash.
They can find used ones at $7K with low miles if they really wanted a Harley. The 90's are over.
Used ow mileage inexpensive Harleys are a dime a dozen.
Anyone with $10K to blow on a bike and now even $7K or less can buy the Harley Davidson badge. New or used with low miles, The only people who might wish they could buy a Harley are those with $4000 and less budgets,
Harley is not the bike every V Twin Cruiser rider "aspires too" I certainly did not when I bought my Yamaha 1300 and put $4500 in it! I could have bought a whole lot of Harleys. But I put too many miles on at the time and nothing kills Harley resale value more than mileage because there are far more low mileage bikes for sale they have to compete with.
