Look around, Craigslist etc. for older trikes for sale or trade. You can sit in your living room and check out every state for the for sales sections on there. Never know what you'll find. Good Luck though.

One legged friend had a sportster that he converted to a trike. Don't recall what brand the kit was but he and his Wife rode it to Sturgis from Kansas with no issues. He got real good at wheeling that trike around. Almost forgot the best part it cost him a third of the cost of a used trike.

We are both "larger"...so its tight, she can ride 1/2 hour.

Budget says, either keep what we have and add a side car, or trade it in for a 90s Heritage Softail, Roadking or the like. Would be more room, better seat for Mama, but LOTS more to handle with my compromised right arm. I have been riding for 40 years, so I can ride, just dont trust the right elbow to get me OUT of trouble if the bike decides its time for a nap. I dont know much about the 90s Evo motors, or the models I am looking at, but I DO know sporties!

So, advise? Opinions? Pies in the face? Should I trade the Sport (has all of 5400 miles on it now....we had it for 2 years) and is a fantastic bike, nimble, fast as a scalded dog, beautiful!) or wait and put the side car rig on it?
Loved my Sporty & the beast I'm riding now is even more powerful, but pulling a hack along with a Sporty might be a bit much. A Road king might be just the ticket. They handle well & have the power. Failing that, check this site for ideas.

I vote for trike! Thinking about your ladies lower back problems, climbing in an out of a side car could cause pain to her back, or just down right be a pain in the a**. Just something to consider.

I would say trike ,I have fusion in my neck and my right arm and hand give me trouble after any distance on my soft tail or touring bike . You still might have trouble with trike because you are in same riding position but you don't have to hold machine up . I just make more stops now a days ,don't do 200 miles at one clip .

Spendy is the exact right word, but you and your better half will have to decide where and what to spend on. Kit on your Sporty or Get a Trike from HD. Choices, Choices and Choices to choose from, I know.

Just remember...Can't bring that dang moola with ya 6 feet below.

With the OP limited medical issues, I would vote for a trike also.

I've had a quadruple by-pass 2 years ago and 5 surgeries on my back, plus both shoulders blown out due to falls. I have no trouble getting around on my Ultra with the wife behind me, plus luggage ( we're bigger also, I'm 240 and she's 180). I have the bike set up for my comfort ( lowered front and rear, changed shock oil out to 10w, Mustang seat, rolled handle bars back) so we can usually ride about 400 miles a day before I have to call it a day. I say do what you think you can afford to do, and don't worry overly much.
