Aftermarket shifter rod failures

Aftermarket shifter rod failures
I have spoke to a few people and have had several say that the aftermarket shifter rods out there seem to fail.Anyone with experience with that and would that also pertain to HD sold shifter rods?

I struggle to see how a shifter rod can fail, except after a lot of use! I have a factory s/s accessory one on my bike, simply to replace the original one that had got scruffy. It works fine after many years!

I made one from 5/16 or 3/8 dis stainless steer. Bought stainless bismuth joints from mcmaster-carr,left hand tap and threaded each end....a bit larger and I think more sturdy. Not sure how this would fail...pretty stout.

Take a good look at the construction of any shifter rod you might want to purchase and make an educated guess. Not too hard to see the build quality on most. The factory rods that are original equipment are absolute junk and will fail and leave you on the side of the road. That's always one of the 1st things I replace on all my bikes.
