Bearing tolerance question
I have an '80 FLT. One of the bearings in the front wheel is a needle bearing which in itself isn't a big deal, but finding one to replace it is. Other than being use specific, maybe someone can tell me what issues (if using a bearing that is 1mm difference) could arise. Would it be a problem or not? This is a picture of the cross reference. I'm looking at using an HK2520 instead of a DB2520. All specs are identical except one.
You can see the 80/81 above and 82+ below. FLT only.
On the 1980 and 1981s there are two different bearings. One is a ball bearing and the other is a needle bearing. They changed those in 82 back to the tapered (Timken) bearings. FLTs only.

Thanks for the come-back.
You first say you are trying to find the needle bearing, but then say the other bearing is the one that is discontinued...
Which bearing is the one you cannot find, the needle bearing or the ball bearing?

@GRBrown - The DB2520 was found by Berry Bearing here @ $30 each in Maine, but said that it wasn't a run-o-the-mill bearing. That is why I started looking myself. The DB2520 doesn't specifically cross reference on any of the data sheets I've found which is why I was looking to specs.. I only stumbled upon the HK2520 which won't work. I found the NK25/20 which is a ground shell with oil hole instead of a drawn shell, and now lt1 just found a TA2520. And in reference to the SKF 465966 ball bearing; it isn't a "standard industry" bearing either. One side is enclosed where the other is open. I've done a fair amount of research on these and while a flippant attitude towards your bike may be fine, this one requires a little more work.
I do appreciate the responses but in some cases you may just maybe need to do a little reading comprehension before jumping in with both feet. It's not my first rodeo, but there are folks on here you could be giving poor advice to.
@ lt1 - I'll look into those TA2520s, that's the first I'd heard of those. Thank you.
You came here looking for help and you are giving people crap about how they answered.
Now please clarify your issue, do you need the needle bearing or the ball bearing? You have been asking about dimensions about both these bearings....
Feel free to give a smart answer again, but remember, none of us needs the bearing...
