Default Swapped handle bars, now getting random check engine light, clutch cable maybe?

I just swapped my bars and depending on which way I turn them I get a check engine light with the ignition on while the bike is not running. I moved the clutch cable to look at some wire to see if they were the problem and then the light went away. So I adjusted the cable slightly and the light went away for a couple of days. Then while I was riding the light would come on and off when I would release the clutch. I find it very odd. Should I do a full clutch adjustment? Any thoughts?

Josh, we get a lot of similar queries after a handlebar change! It is quite likely a wire is trapped where the switches are clamped to the bars. Go back over what you did and check everything with a fine tooth comb, for crimped or damaged wires. What year and model is your bike?

Clutch/cable & CEL have nothing to do with your issue...you've got something wrong with a connector or wiring in your bar swap. Time to disassemble and look for pinched/bare/bad wiring. Also, be nice to know some details on your bike...helps assess the issue(s).

Thanks for the replies. I did pinch a couple of wires during the swap. I actually posted a thread about it and seem to have got it fixed. I cut the wires and crimped them with connectors right at the left controls. It was definitely a tighter fit when bolting it back together but it seemed to work fine. It is a new 2015 FXDB 103. I am now having trouble with the battery holding a charge and cranking over and in fact this morning it wouldn't crank over at all, even with a full charge. I just spoke to my dealership and have scheduled an appointment with them to check my voltage regulating system which is covered under warranty but I fear that with the damage I have done nothing will be covered under warranty and I am about to drop some serious coin on the problem.

Should I just pull the switch controls out that I tried to repair and buy a replacement from harley for $150 or should I just pay the shop rate to have them fix it? I fear that I will pay for the part anyways plus 3 hours of labor for something I could easily do myself.
