Thanks, I know with all the new changes to the engine, gear drive, and spark plugs, I just hear a lot of metal noise that my other two Harley's never made.
First off, never buy the "It's a Harley. They all do that." crap because they don't all do "that". If you don't like something, take it in for warranty work and keep bringing it back until it is fixed properly.
If the counter-balancer caused a whine, then people would have been noticing it since 1999 when the counter-balanced Softail engine was released.
New motors are supposed to be quieter from the previous motor due to stricter EPA noise regulations.

The counter balance in the softails are chain driven, the counter balance in the M8 is gear driven. So a gear whine would be normal.

Well the softails drive counter balancers with chains and the 17s drive with gears. Chains easier to keep quiet..
