Default Grip Misalignment

Put new HD Chrome and Rubber grips on my 16' RK. The throttle side lines up nice with the bar and shield facing directly at the rider. The clutch side does not. I have replace at least 6 sets of HD grips in the past and as far as I know they clutch side grip will only go in one way, you rotate the grip until it locks in place and the switch housing will close around it. Does anyone else have these grips and how is the left side look? For $90 you would think that both sides would match......

Are the brake and clutch levers aligned at the same angle when looking at the bike from the front while the bike is on a level lift?

Just loosen your clutch side controls and rotate it. It's not that it only goes in way set way. It just needs to be in the housing. Then you tighten down the controls

There is a notch in the bottom of the left grip that locates in the clutch side control housing. If you rotate the grip like you suggest you also rotate the control housing along with your controls.

^^^Yep^^^

You should be able to loosen the control screws and fine-tune grip to your satisfaction.

I have a different set of HD brand grips on my Softail with the same problem. The only time the bar and shield logo lines up on the throttle side is when you have the grip rolled open about 1/4 of the rotation... I guess they figure it's more important to have matching imprints on your palm than having them line up when the bike is parked.

And yes, they are locked into the control housings with no opportunity to align them the same. The clutch side is locked into the housing and the throttle side is held in a different location by the cable ends.

Makes no sense to me... But I also gave up caring about ten minutes into the new grips. They feel ten times better than the old ones.
