I just noticed on my HD Detachable Windshield, there are two retainers on the windshield brackets. They do not hook or clip onto the mounting bushing or hardware. What is the purpose of these retainers?
I went to my local Harley dealer, looked at bikes with detachable windshields and they just rest on top of the mounting bushings. I also asked a sales person, but no help.
They make it easier to remove the windshield. By pulling the retainers up and towards you (as you're straddling the front wheel) the top bracket hooks unmount their bushings, then you grab the shield bottom and unmount the lower brackets.
Mounting is the reverse. Lower brackets mount first, then top. Make sure the retainers mount the bracket inboard of the bushings, and don't get jammed by the brackets.
