So here's the deal - I am going to get a new speedo for the bike.
Boardtracker has them for about $50 less than my local dealer who I am extremely pleased with. I have bought 2 bikes from them and have been treated great by the sales, service and parts department. I also like working with local stores whenever possible.
So with that - I am going to let them know I can get the part online but would like to give them the chance to be competitive on the price.
So - in bounds or out of bounds? Don't want to come off as d*%@%* bag...
If everybody buys online in the future, because they can offer lower prices as they don't have the overhead, and all the dealers go belly up ar you ok with that?

That's a good point....which is why I like buying local but in this case boardtracker is a dealer...
If you have the ability to install the new speedometer by yourself, I suggest keeping your own business to yourself. If you can't do the work, then I'd purchase the part from the dealer that's going to install it at their price because if you don't they're liable to somehow hit you with "additional shop fees" or extra shop time to do the install which will wipe out any savings you've gotten by buying online. Your call!
I see a potential wrinkle here:
If the speedo has the odometer built in then who calibrates the odometer? If Boardtracker can do it then there is not wrinkle. If they say the service department will have to set the odometer then they will know no matter what, right? Asking them to take care of you when you didn't buy the part from them could suck.
Let's say there is no wrinkle. Say it is a some other part of 50 or more bucks.
A dealer will NEVER...I repeat NEVER match Boardtracker. Boardtracker is typically 17-20% off. It'll never happen.
You could say an online dealer will do 20 off and ask if tyhey will do 10 off. That you'd rather buy from them but you just can't pay full list. The local might do 10% off.
It's not important that you are buying from a dealer as much buying from your local. You should be able to lean on your deal for things. You need them to be there. If ya give all your moeny else where maybe your dealers will disappear.
I appreciate all the responses. I plan on installing myself and in general I tend to be loyal to places if the service is great and HD of Madison has been outstanding on all fronts. Since I plan more upgrades in the future that I won't wrench myself and will go to them, think I will make sure they get my business...
