Default Softail frame help - FXSTDI

Hi All,

Just after some information from some of the gurus around here about fitment to frames.

So here is my situation. Im currently after a frame to suit a softail deuce FXSTDI (up to 2001 model) All the parts I have are to suit a fxstdi style frame. Ideally it would be best to get a 2nd hand frame but unfortunately it's pretty rare to find one for this model, only one I have seen so far is in America and it looks like the rear has been modified (as youll see later in this post )

So first thing I have here is the actual frame part number/ parts break down for FXSTD Part number - 4887-00B (But this company doesn't/will not ship to overseas customers for what ever reason)

So this is our benchmark of what the expected frame should look like.

Here is the 2nd hand frame, claimed to be from a 02 FXSTDI (from what i'm aware the change over year is 01-02 but from what I hear, there isn't any difference in frame mounting locations.) As you can see in the pictures, all of it is the same except it looks like they have modified the rear area, where the fender is mounted? This option, is also a bit unfeasible due to the seller refusing to set up any shipping

And finally I have come across this Kraft tech frame. After a bit of research, it seems this company is pretty reputable and their aftermarket frames are upto standards. So the k10065 Kraft tech frame is looking like the frame to buy, but this is where it gets tricky. Half of the sites that sell them say they are compatible with FXSTDI models and half explicitly say they do not suit.

After talking to one of the motorcycle technicians from JP cycles website, we concluded the frame should suit my standards but I'm still not 100% sure.
The thing that worries me is their website is stating that the frame is for stock rear tyre components of 130mm, but my tyre will be 180mm.

So basically after all of this, what im asking is.....

Can anyone tell me why exactly this k10065 frame will not be suitable for my FXSTDI Components, and if its only a matter of relocating tank mounts, then it shouldn't cause a drama? It's made to suit a twin 88b engine and driveline and to suit a stock swingarm as well.

Just an edit, I have noticed on the rear of the K tech frame that the fender mounts are not exactly the same as the softail (never took notice until I found this parts break down catolouge recently) and it could be possible that that's the only difference? A better view is

Thank you all inadvance!!!!

I'm not an any kind of expert on TC softail frames but have built an Evo softail custom bike with 180 rear tire. It used a Kraftech frame. They did offset the motor and widened the frame/swingarm slightly to keep the 1 1/2 inch belt. I've also fit a 180 tire to 2000 dyna frame (FXDX) using the stock frame / swingarm and switching to chain. I think the main issues you need to look between a standard TC softail frame and Deuce frame are the distance between the those rear frame ears and whether HD offset the motor/tranny to get things to line up with the wider tire.

I went and looked at the part numbers for the frame and rear swing arm between a softail std and deuce. Frames are different but the swingarm is the same. The belt used was 1 1/8 for the deuce and the stock tire was a 160. I suspect that HD didn't offset the motor/tranny in the frame. I do know that you can stuff a 180 tire into a Deuce with a little work. With the swingarm being the same, I suspect that the frame you selected will fit most of the components but the rear fender mounts will be too close together for the Deuce fender. You could possibly make that Kraftech tc std softail frame work if you bend the rear fender brackets out to support the wider fender,, That is my guess, No quaranties tho, I was able to fit a 180 tire on my dyna by heating up the rear fender brackets in the frame and taking some of the bends out of them. I could then fit a wider rear tire/fender.

If you're looking for an aftermarket Twincam softail frame....two companies come to mind and I have used both

OP is also in Australia, which presents him with extra challenges. His two posts above are all he has posted on HDF, so we may never know if he was successful.
