leather clutch/break lever covers

leather clutch/break lever covers
So I ordered a set of these and they came with no instructions on how to install them... may seem obvious, but there's two long leather 'laces' at one end of each of the covers... the covers just slip on to the lever, what to do with the excess leather tag ends? Tie them off and cutt off excess?
Thanks for any help on this seemingly dumb question...

Soak the laces in water for about an hour.
Install them, tight, then knot them at the end.
Let them dry and cut the lengths to anything you like.
Some folks leave the entire length.
Put a towel over the bike as you lace them, the wet laces may drip dye.
