Default Apes vs. Drag Bars

So I'm tryhing to decide on 12" apes or drag bars for my Harley 48. I've heard most people say apes are very comfortable and drag bars are not. I went to my local Harley mechanic today and sat on a bike with apes and my arms felt tired..lol. Seems like theres more effort on the arm muscles than leaning on drag bars. Just seems laws of gravity would tire your arms out more on apes as opposed to drags. He said people either love them or hate em'. I personally like the way drag bars look better and I don;t have to spend even more money to extend cables if I get the apes. I can get drag bars with a decent rise and pull back a bit. Torn as to what to do. Thanks. Any advice? Thanks.

Based on the above statements, I think you know what you want.

I have 16" apes on the Road King and drag bars with 6" pull back risers on the Night Train. I like the bars respectively on each bike. Would not like drag bars on the Road King or apes on the Night Train.

My vote for your bike is drag bars with pull back risers.

I agree with 1Fordman. I have a panhead with drag bars on 6-inch risers and 16-inch bars on my Road King. Each set up fits the bike. Go for the drag bars with some taller risers, and get pullback risers if you think the reach to bars on straight risers will be too much.

Go with what you think is comfortable. I have 18" apes with 1" risers.
