Default Nut and Washer Size by Part Number?

Hi, is there any place to find out what the nut and washer size is by Harley part number?

I am looking to find the size of a lock nut that is Harley part number:35078-79 and the size of a washer part number: 6701. I've searched Harley's website to see if I could just order them from them or buy it from my local HD parts department, but no results are found. Does the parts department at HD dealership sell nuts and washers?

I've looked on Ronnies and other online sites for those parts and they are sold but I can't find the size specs, would rather buy local from the hardware store or the HD parts depot if they sell it so I don't have to wait for shipping. Thanks for and help!

I was unable to find a source. I have purchased some bolts through Harley. However most of what I need I take the bolt down to the hardware store and ask if they have one. If you don’t have the existing bolt, well....... it may be difficult.

In the back of the Factory parts manual (You do have one don't you?) is a cross reference for bolt sizes by part #
#6701 is a washer 3/8 x 13/16 x 1/16

Ok, now tell him the spec for the 35078-79 nut......

It`s the locknut used on the end of the mainshaft and countershaft, you won`t be finding these in a hardware store.

When you see a regular part number (not a hardware number) assigned to a fastener such as 35078-79, your best bet is to try to source it from the dealer or aftermarket supplier, not a hardware store, because it may be a specialized fastener.

If you don`t want to pay the crazy price for a parts manual, they can be viewed on the Harley Davidson Service Information Portal, it will ask for a VIN.

Would you help us out here and tell us how you got the numbers for the 35078-79 nut?

If you use a nut made to that spec on the end of your mainshaft or countershaft in the transmission, you better be ready to hear loud noises...

Knowing the thread pitch is not everything, and the reason I don`t buy critical fasteners from a hardware store, or worse, a home center...

We don`t know if the MoCo specifies a certain strength material, and of course it`s not a Hex Nut, it`s a Hex Locknut.

I used Google and it gave me this link for the nut "https://estore.chester-harley-davids...79-p68438.html" and this for the washer "https://www.lockesupply.com/Products...0OD%2C%20Steel"

I have a list of H.D. fastener part numbers with specifics listed ... size, pitch, length etc ... It's in a *.pdf format ... I can't remember where I found it ... Tried to post it here and can't post a *.pdf file
