General Topics/Tech TipsDiscussion on break in periods, rider comfort, seats and pad suggestions. Tech tips as they become available will be posted here.
Probably been posted 100 times but I don't see it here so......
Popped the frame end hook of my Ultras Jiffy Stand spring almost to a 90* angle the other day and it popped out of the frame leaving the spring dangling from the stand.
Re-bent the spring end w/needle nosed pliers, put good hook end in my vise, bent the spring over, opening up the coils & stuck 10 pennies between them.
Bent it the opposite direction, against the pennies & stuck 9 more between the coils.
Inserted the hook into the frame......raised the stand (while my wife held the bike upright) inserted the other end into the stand shaft eye-hole, lowered the stand & all but 2 pennies dropped out......pulled those out w/the needle nosed pliers.
Buying a new spring tomorrow & will use the "old spring & adjustable wrench pull" method to install it.
There is an easier way than that. Look for it on u-tube. Loosen bolt of jiffy stand, rotate towards the front of the bike, remove old spring, install new and rotate back. Tighten bolt. Takes all of 2 minutes with the help of a friend to hold the bike up. I think the owners manual even shows how.

Bama LeeThis should work for you as well. Looks like you just picked up that 2006 UC not too long ago so, that Jiffy Stand spring should rotate forward enough as outlined with that bolt removed. My 2003 works this way. The "penny trick" is cool but not really needed.
Thanks to Bama Lee for posting this. I used this method to change my girlfriend's stand on a '17 Deluxe and it worked great!
PS: you can't just swing the stand forward on this softail.

It IS needed for a Dyna. I realize that's not the model we're talking about here but the washer/pennies method is still very relevant for other HD models.
