So I have 87 FXR and when it’s running it’s at 13 V when I hit the gas it goes up to 14.2 V but then after that once it’s warmed up a little bit the voltage goes back down to 13 V now if I let it sit for a little longer it drops down to 12.4 V and shuts off it also has like a little backfire when it does this and sounds like a misfire but it’s new plugs and coil. Anybody else have anything similar happened, it’s a new stater and voltage regulator not sure what else It could be unless those went bad maybe
Diagnosis of every "issue" that includes the electrical system should begin with either a load test of the battery, or replacement, just for testing purposes with a battery KNOWN to be good. Notice I didn't say with a NEW battery. A new battery is an unknown. It's unusual, but brand new batteries are occasionally bad. If you're an amateur ( like me) after a new battery doesn't solve the problem... you'll chase the problem with new parts until you finally figure out that the new battery you just bought is no good.
