Speedometer change, will it pick up mileage from ecm?
I installed a new fancy HD speedometer but am thinking I want to go back to the classic looking orange speedometer. The reason I'm thinking of switching back is that the ABS light on the new one is constantly on, and it's pretty annoying at night. My bike does not have ABS.
The new one synchronized with the ecm just fine and picked up the mileage data, but my question is this - if I go back to the old speedometer that I took out at 15,500 miles, will it automatically pick up the new mileage at 16,750 where it is now? I know, there's one way to find out for sure, but was hoping someone has done this before and might know. Installing the new one was sort of a hassle, with that finnicky gasket.
The dealer can turn off the ABS light. AFAIK the only way. I would do that, if that was the only reason you're changing back.
To answer the question, I do believe it will correct itself.
Two reasons for wanting to switch back to original speedo. ABS light constantly on, and I think the look of the classic speedometer is just a nicer look with this bike versus the more modern new speedometer.
Sorry don't have an answer on going back with the speedo. For the light you have to go to a dealer. I've had similar experience only it was traction control light (which I don't have) - it came up after unit was locked to the bike. There were no error codes and I had to pay dealer to reflash ECM.
You can easily check which ECM you have. Just remove the saddle and you'll see the ECM on the rear fender underneath. ABS light issue on the speedo you have is a well known problem when installed on the non-ABS bikes with Thundermax ECM. They recommend just to clear the BCM codes.
