On my 2005 Road King Classic some idiot cracked the glass on the speedometer. I decided to continue to use the bike until Id money to buy a new speedometer. But moisture shortened the whole thing after a few weeks. In order to know the speed while driving I bought a used speedometer for almost no money.
And when I finally had the money to buy a brand new speedometer I tried to copy the old mileage to the new. Because the mileage is stored in the ECU, right? But I got the mileage from my interim speedometer. Strange, huh?
Anyway, my question: My new speedometer hasnt married my bike yet. Can I somehow reset the mileage before it does marry? Id rather start from 0 than from the interim speedometer mileage.
I hope what you are trying to do is not possible. The vehicle manufacturers intentionally created a system where you cannot rest the mileage before selling a vehicle.

I get that and I agree with you. But this is before the speedo has married the bike.
Your question does make sense. The mileage is stored in the ECM and according to this: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....9?locale=en_US
the used speedometer should have read VIN ERR, Maybe your year and model is different. I would call the Harley Tech line. In the states it is 1 800 258 2464
Good luck
You should be asking how do you transfer the correct mileage from the original speedometer to a new speedometer. Instead you are trying to figure out how to get your Harley to show no miles again so you can sell it as a low mileage bike.
2005 Road King speedo mileage is 100% stored in the 5" speedometer itself. They definitely DO NOT marry to any bike. Extremely interchangeable
Thanks DresserDude.
The search I did the other day came up with the information I posted above. After reading your post I went to the parts manual and found the speedometer is 67033-04b and searching that Boardtracker had this: http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....ated-67033-04b

So it seems you provide the mileage when you buy a new one and they enter it. Wonder what year they did marry after 30+ miles?
On my 2006 Sporty the mileage was inside the speedo. I cracked the glass in a crash, and when I changed the speedo with a used one off eBay it showed the mileage off the donor parts bike. It may be the same for your 2005 Road King.
