I have a new project Sportster a 2005 XLC, and I want to fit a coffin tank but nobody in the UK seem to make tank mounts which do not involve welding. Lowbrow do adapters but they only go up to 2003 models anyone know of a shop which does adapters or a way of overcoming this?
i do not remember where i got this as it goes back decades but search for an under tank mount. this tank has bolt tabs welded underside and uses a cross bar to joint or clamp to the frame. this machine has nearly 200k miles on it and been through several style changes.
picture of the tank would help
it might be you could go to a cushion mount. through frame is an option now but that 74ch had the wiring run through the backbone. if you do drill through the frame make sure you seal off water intrusion. that tubing is the cheapest hd could find. the ch was welded seam thin wall and i would garner that the solid engine mount accounted for most of the frame strength.
