General Topics/Tech TipsDiscussion on break in periods, rider comfort, seats and pad suggestions. Tech tips as they become available will be posted here.
that super 90 was a sweet machine, very well balanced it could stand on its tires a little while without falling over, had a friend who would ride standing on the seat.
power/weight ratio has a lot to do with it. one of the best wheelie machines i ever saw was a BSA bronco. my friend victor could stay up on one all day if he wanted. wasn't too bad on the dirt either but the bultaco gave him a run for the money.
Thank you bustert, I had forgotten the bultacos. Memories of stupid **** are running through my head now.
This is all I could ever wheelie. Just be sure to keep the rear spokes tuned up.
You do wheelies, they get loose, they break, they wind up in the chain. You then drag the bike into the bushes. Walk home several miles to get your dad to help you go get your bike at 1AM.
Or at least that’s how I remember it in or around 1972.
You can't count it as a wheelie if you have to drop the clutch from a dead-stop
My WR426F is my wheelie beast. I can go for blocks. I still have it, and bought it brand new.
I have had so many sport bikes that could do it without clutch action, but my ZX12-R was a wheel lofting monster after mods, even more than my Hayabusas.
The FXDLS was pretty impressive after SS585 cams and a good dyno tune, I just never could get a balance point like those hooligans do on YouTube I only tried it a couple of times, just playing around.
My bagger just goes fast, I don't even try that **** with it.
Congratulations on your first post to HDF,
to the Forum.
Great first post!
I would be more concerned on my engine oil flowing correctly while doing wheelies than anything else.
Good luck and post a couple of videos of your wheeling when you can.

It must be done for any longer wheelies or the engine will be starved of oil

I have never been good with wheelies, other than power/ acceleration.
I understand the trick....drag the rear brake.
But, is it true, long distance wheelies on a Harley, both Big Twins and Sportsters, there is an oil starvation issue?
I wanna start wheeling my dyna but afraid about the engine tabs braking. What are you all doing to prevent that??? And is there anything else to be worried about thank you all in advance.

Here is the Dyna specific mod for the oil pan / pickup tube.
