I have have just got a 96 electro glide heritage police standard it wasn't starting so I replaced plugs and wires as well as all fuel lines filter and pump it will start now with some effort but won't idle or stay running just curious where I should go next to chase the issue

 

Simple thing, fresh gas?

 

1. You need to figure out what you have as I do not think there is a 96 Electro Glide Heritage Police Standard.
2. There are Softail Heritage models
3. There are Electra Glide Touring Models
4. There is a Electra Glide Police Standard
5. Standard models come with a carb, so no fuel pump.
6. Heritage models come with a carb, no fuel pump.
7. Electra Glide Classic come with a fuel pump.

Figure out what you have and report back.

If it is fuel injected your next place to look is the Induction Module Assembly.

Do you have a H-D Field Service Manual? If not get one as there will be trouble shooting guides in there.

well, there is not such a thing as 96 electro glide heritage police standard. No bike no problem.

 

Yes I am aware of that as he stated such in his post

And he said he replaced the fuel pump and filter so I would assume it has fresh gas.

 

Just a question. But you don't need to drain the bike to replace fuel filter or pump, the way I remember it. But it's been a few years. I think I just ran it low. But I can't remember for sure.

You ever replace a fuel pump?

I asked about gas cause it is the last simple thing. It want starting, so not sure how long had been sitting, which may be the next question.

He did some things and it is starting to run. So makes me maybe think fuel related, but wild guess.
