Default Primary case noise

I have an 03 Softtail FXST with only 2000 mi. I was starting her up the other day, she was in neutral and the choke was not on. She was trying to turn over, so I gave her a little gas, and a strange noise came from the primary case. She finally started up, and now it sounds as though there is a bb jumping around in the case. Would anyone know what the heck that could be? Could something have snapped off somehow when I was starting her up? She's running just fine, just making the bb rattiling noise it the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When was the last time you checked your primary chain tension?

You might want to take off the inspection covers and have looksy.

Thanks for the replies, it turns out that the nut on the chain tension adjuster was loose and causing all of the noise.
