I ride a '91 FXRS-C, Low Rider Convertible [&:]. As I bought it there was no speedo on it. I can't find out if they had a mechanical (frontweel) or a electronic (as the FXDX) speedo. Is it possible to install a electronic speedo ?
Who has got the answer?
I don't think they make a conversion for this application. First of all you'd need a speed sensor on your transmission and of course an electronic speedometer that would be compatible with it. They did make a conversion for an early softail, but obviosly the speedometers are different sizes.
You may try to contact Dakota Digital and see if the offer anything.
Thanks for your answer. So the mechanical version is the original, if I get it wright?!
If so, I'll go for the original version.
I've been checking the prices for the HD's over there. My god, they're cheap in the US !!
Over here in Europe we can add about 30% to your prices. You are lucky bastards [sm=imsmilin.gif]
I've got an '84 with a mechanical drive on the front axle. Several years ago I switched to an Autometer electronic speedometer and this required a device to convert the mechanical to electrical. Its a small device which I installed in the headlight housing.
The 91 had a mechanical drive speedo off the front wheel. There are units that will drive an electronic speedo off either wheel, I believe S&S makes one aside from others.

What was the device to convert a mechanical to electronic? I have an 89 hugger that came with no gauges. Bought drag specialties mini electronic speedo and I don't know how to make it work. Also bought a universal digital and again same issue. Not trying to buy a 3rd gauge would like to make one of what I have work. Sorry. First bike and noon here
I put an electronic speedo on my 94 Road King. It's a very custom application but I like it. Look up Koso speedometers. Some of their kits are very DIY though, but that's how I am.

underboss hasn't posted on HDF since 2008, so you are unlikely to get a reply from him, unfortunately. I suggest you start a new thread and make a fresh start!
