For those of you that take your bike in for service.

Do you tip your bike mechanic?

If so, how much?

must be, roflmao. they already over charge for work done, isn't that enough? you must be a mechanic yourself and your trying to start a new trend. i got a tip for you: don't have your mouth open when your riding at dusk unless you like choking on bugs. lol later

I tip the guys that work on my bike. $20 is nothing after a $400 bill.
Tell ya what, they know my name, my bike and are always extra nice.
Never had a problem with service there. Tipped from day 1.

Should I have to? No. Do I have do? I don't think so. I still do it because it's good karma and I know that buying them a few rounds is appreciated.

No, I'm not a Harley mechanic. I've sat in a waiting room waiting for service to be completed and found that some folks even tip the service writer $10. (Although only when they put your bike ahead of five others). When you get there at 8am with a problem it sure beats hearing..."we can't get to you untilafter 3pm".

I agree with Rhubarb, the way I figure it. Harley mechanics probably don't make big bucks. Not sure what the real deal is but I would guess that if you were getting charged $75 per hour I doubt if the mechanic is evenmaking $20 bucks of that.

Ialso agree with als88 "they already over charge for work done, isn't that enough?" I do feel thatshops charge more than I believe it should be.

Although, there are three people I want happy.

When I take a flight I want my pilot to be happy.
When I get surgery I want my doctor to be happy.
When I get my bike worked on I want my Harley mechanic to be happy.

No doubt about them remembering you, I know all my customers that tip the techs, and if they do a good job request them next time you bring your bike in. That makes them feel good and shows the Service Manager they're doing a good job.

I don't ordinarily tip, but do something for the Service Writer/Tech staff if they go above and beyond.

Dealership took my bike in without an appointment for primary bearing replacement right before a long weekend trip. They did the job in time for me to take the trip.

Sent e-mail to dealership owner, and had pizza delivered to service staff.

I do. depends on the amount of the bill, usually $10. I use an indy and I like the "extra" attention my bike gets. but, I also tip the barber, the newspaper boy and give the mailman a restaurant gift card for Christmas.

watch Steve Martin in "My Blue Heaven" for the best answer on why to tip

I'm still rotflmfao, have been for 2 days. I made my living with wrenches my whole life and NEVER GOT A TIP. Maybe I should have worked on Harleys instead of industrial trucks. But I suppose that if one of my customers had tipped me they would have gotten a little extra attention: IE: if the bike is in for a head light bulb does the mechanic check all fluid levels, tire and shock pressure, battery, etc?? are they working flat rate?? You want attention, How about a case of beer on ice in the hard bags? ( It's snowing big f'in flakes now )

The indy I use gets a 12 pack of his favorite beer after every service.
