One thing that works wonders for cutting down on the time it takes to bring polished aluminum back to life is Meguiar's Hot Rims CHROME Wheel Cleaner. That's the chrome cleaner not the aluminum. It comes in a red bottle not the pinkish one.
Warning. This stuff was not made for aluminum. It eats through a lot of oxidation and really dulls the surface. Put it on for about 30 seconds and use a scotch bright pad to scrub the surface and rinse it off. At that point you'll be thinking "oh chit, what did I just do". Then use any of the bright metal polishing compound and polish just as you would have before. Polishing just once and you're miles ahead of where you would have been by just polishing the aluminum. The best part is that it takes all the blemishes out that you would still be stuck with if you just polished forever.
I've used it on wheels and the side cases of the motor. When I do the primary and cam covers, I remove them from the motor 'cause I'm afraid to get the wheel cleaner on anything else.
hmmn. was wondering what I could use to get rid of the oxidation marks that seem to appear on everyone's rear wheel. can get some pics up so I know if I should use it or not for my rear wheel on my Night Train?
